Michael Avila

LCSW, Executive Director

I began working with adolescents when I was just a teenager myself. In high school, I received support and guidance from trusted adults. These relationships shaped me and changed the path of my life. I learned early that one person could truly change your whole life and I decided I wanted to be a part of that.

After pursuing my Master’s degree at Lehman College, I worked extensively throughout New York City facilitating social skills groups and providing one-on-one therapeutic services. I have also worked researching and presenting professionally on group attachments and their connection to mental health and suicide risks.

Over the years, science has been instrumental in helping us recognize the relationship between trauma, our bodies, and mental health. This is something we emphasize at Bright Mind Therapy. We recognize the body’s ability to help heal trauma and increase mental well-being. With that, we work to incorporate these tools and assist each individual to be the best and brightest version of themselves.
